Words of Wisdom—The Thanksgiving Collection
Thanksgiving had a violent and colonialist beginning, which can never be forgotten. And, it needs to be acknowledged. I honor these tragic beginnings, and I also enjoy celebrating good food, good times and good laughs with my friends and cherished loved ones on this day. The holidays can bring up so much grief, loss, depression and distance, and I choose to be grateful for all the privileges, beauty, love and care I have in my life, currently being lived out on Coast Miwok land.
I appreciate how special it is to be singing, cooking delicious food, and experiencing such joy and beauty with my best friend and another of our friends today because five years ago today I was depressed, suicidal and had just lost all of my closest friends. I had someone—my mother—there to offer me some hope to keep going, and in honor of that 32 year old me, who was still a girl, I wanted to do another set of Words of Wisdom affirmations to express my gratitude for this life, for this day, and for you for being part of this journey with me!
