Everyone has their own way of connecting to the elements: Earth, Fire, Water, Air. Everyone has their own associations, directions, symbols and meanings for each one, too. I find it incredibly powerful that each element is so personal, and yet, the effect is the same for all of us.

I’m staying centered by calling on the elements to keep myself grounded in my Reiki practice. I root into the Earth, envisioning my roots creating a circle or tree skirt around me that goes deep into the Earth’s core. I reach my arms up to the sky and feel the Air surrounding and supporting me, and I feel what I usually feel with the air—lightness and liberation—and that brings me to my own heart center.

I am grounding in the power of the mountains, the power of these roots that encircle me like a skirt, the freedom of the air, and the openness in my heart.

Grounding within myself before each Distance Reiki session is not only what I have been taught to do, but it has become a personal ritual for me that I look forward to each day because it feels good to have the space and time to come home to myself in this way.

In what ways are you coming home to yourself these days?

Is now the time to reignite your inner fire?

Passion, drive, forward motion, internal motivation, cascading sparks, soft fire, an aesthetic blitzkrieg—I have felt all of these ignite within my heart, within my belly, and within my soul over the years.

Since my Reiki attunement, the drive, forward motion and internal fire have been lit, and I am ablaze, aflame, glowing, smoldering, softly burning.

It’s so invigorating to feel inspired again, to have a deeper sense of purpose and a calling to offer something of myself to this world. For the past five years, I haven’t felt that. I burned out at 29 after completing two MFA’s and fell into a spiritual awakening and soul journey that consumed all of that previous passion and drive, leaving me empty, despairing and incapable of doing any work. I was offered and accepted a few adjunct teaching jobs and failed incredibly because as one student pointed out, I was “uninspiring” and uninspired. That spark had gone out. The academic world I had loved my whole life was no longer where I belonged, and I hadn’t found a true home calling to me yet.

Do you hear the call?

I heard the call.

I danced with my emotional waters, the moon, the chaos, the calm, the trauma, my past, my karma, the beauty, the wreckage, and through it all, I learned to listen to my body and my soul.

It brought me to the cleansing and clearing I needed with the Reiki, which has propelled me to this new stage of my work—my professional work as well as my own inner healing journey.

And, it is a dance. . .

How do you dance with the elements of Earth, Fire, Water and Air?

Allow your whole self to fly!

Feel your own light and liberation.

Feel your soul.

Feel your spirit.

And, soar to new heights.
